What issues should be noted when using pH/acidity meter electrodes

Before the next operation after each calibration and measurement, the electrode should be cleaned with distilled water or deionized water, and then cleaned with the test solution once.

2. When removing the electrode sheath of the pH/acidity meter, avoid contact between the sensitive glass bubbles of the electrode and hard objects, as any damage or abrasion will cause the electrode to fail.

3. After the measurement is completed, promptly put the pH/acidity meter electrode protective cover on. A small amount of saturated KCL solution should be placed inside the electrode cover to keep the electrode bubbles moist, and avoid soaking them in distilled water.

4. The external reference supplement solution for the pH/acidity meter composite electrode is 3mol/L potassium chloride solution. The supplement solution can be added through a small hole at the top of the electrode. When the composite electrode is not in use, cover it with a rubber stopper to prevent the supplement solution from drying up.

5. The lead out end of the pH/acidity meter electrode must be kept clean and dry to absolutely prevent short circuits at both ends of the output, otherwise it will cause measurement errors or failures.

6. The electrode of the pH meter/acidity meter should be matched with a pH meter with a high input impedance of ≥ 3 × 1011 Ω to maintain good characteristics.

7. pH/acidity meter electrodes should avoid prolonged immersion in distilled water, protein solutions, and acidic fluoride solutions

8. Avoid contact between the electrodes of the pH/acidity meter and organic silicone oil.

After long-term use, if the slope of the pH/acidity meter electrode slightly decreases, the lower end of the electrode can be soaked in 4% HF hydrofluoric acid for 3-5 seconds, washed with distilled water, and then soaked in 0.1mol/L hydrochloric acid solution to restore it. It is best to replace the electrode.

10. If the tested solution contains substances that can easily contaminate sensitive bubbles or block the liquid interface, causing electrode passivation, there will be a decrease in slope and inaccurate display readings. If this phenomenon occurs, the electrode should be cleaned with an appropriate solution according to the nature of the pollutant to restore its original state.
