What's wrong with a multimeter that doesn't respond to a capacitor?

One, the capacitor has been disconnected. We know that the multimeter to measure capacitance, mainly as a DC power supply and ammeter to use the multimeter. When the capacitor is connected to the DC power supply circuit in a moment, the capacitor is in the charging state, the ammeter will have an indication (that is, the multimeter has a reaction). If, at this time, the multimeter does not respond, there is only one possibility, that is, the capacitor has been disconnected (i.e., disconnected).

Second, the batteries in the multimeter has been depleted. This problem is good to check, the multimeter to ohm file (any file can be), will be red, black two pens touch, such as the multimeter does not indicate or the pointer does not move (pointer multimeter), that the battery has been exhausted. If the multimeter has instructions or pointer to zero, that the battery is still electric.

If the multimeter has a measurement of capacitance capacity of the gear, usually in the measurement of capacitance, the capacitance must be discharged, otherwise it is easy to damage the multimeter, resulting in the multimeter is not allowed to test or no display, with the resistor to measure the capacitance of a different story!

Capacitor discharge process
If the gear is correct, the capacitor does not have the process of charging and discharging, the resistance value to zero or even a very small stop, indicating that the capacitor breakdown, if the resistance value is very large, or even no reaction indicates that the capacitor is open circuit, has been bad. Test the good and bad of the electrical original, especially open circuit measurement, it is best to have the same parameters of the new components for comparison, good identification.

The use of fire wire to zero wire, as well as the voltage of the fire wire to ground are 220V, and the voltage of the zero wire to ground is 0V, the two characteristics of the measurement, the steps are as follows:

1. Select a digital multimeter with AC high voltage (>250VAC) measurement function.

2. Insert the black pen into the black hole (labelled COM) and the red pen into the hole of the voltage resistor (labelled VΩ)

3. Set the multimeter to the 500V of the V~ gear.

4. The red pen is connected to one power line of the utility, and the black pen is connected to the other power line. If the multimeter shows >200V, it indicates that there is power, and you can make the next step to confirm, otherwise, check it out.

5. The red pen is connected to one of the wires, the black pen is inserted into the earth, if the multimeter shows >200V, the red pen contacts the line for the fire wire, otherwise it is the zero line.

6. According to step 5, if step 5 tests out as fire wire, the other one is zero wire, if step 5 tests out as zero wire, the other one is fire wire.
