Why should we wipe the cedar oil on the oil lens when using microscope oil lens?

Because glass and cedar oil have similar refractive indices, a drop of cedar oil when doing microscopy will cancel out the refraction of light through the glass and avoid blurring of the image.

In the use of oil mirror, allowed in the spotting lens and specimen between the cedar oil is not added, that is, the spotting lens on the air is still the medium, but this will sacrifice the resolution of the objective lens.

If, after observing with an oil lens, it is necessary to turn back to the high magnification objective for observation, the oil should be wiped off the coverslip so as not to stain the high magnification objective. However, the oil on the condenser can not be wiped, as long as the light bar is appropriately narrowed a little.

After the oil mirror is used, the cedar oil should be wiped clean in time. The lens can be first wiped with a clean mirror paper 1 to 2 times to wipe off most of the oil.

Then wipe the mirror paper wet with xylene drops twice, and finally wipe the mirror paper clean that is. The same wiping method is used for polygraphs. If the specimen needs to be preserved, the cedar oil on the slide can be wiped off by "pulling the paper method".

That is, the mirror paper covered in the slide, a drop of xylene on the paper, while wet, the paper flat dragged outward, several times in a row can be wiped clean.
