Why we need lensless holographic microscopes

Oct 17, 2022

Why do you need a lensless holographic microscope?

Traditional microscopes can only observe the intensity distribution when observing biological samples. In the natural state, cells are usually colorless and transparent, and need to be artificially stained in the later stage. Imaging after mechanical focusing has poor real-time performance. In addition, the internal optical structure of the microscope is complex. Some manufacturers' systems are expensive, which is not conducive to commercialization.

Problems with traditional solutions

1. Slow imaging speed: When using traditional microscope imaging, manual or automatic focusing is required to find the image surface, which is not conducive to real-time monitoring of biological samples.

2. Expensive: The optical path structure of traditional microscopes is complex, and some microscopes are expensive, which cannot meet the market demand in underdeveloped areas.

3. There may be cell damage: Traditional fluorescence microscopes need to stain cells in advance when observing biological samples to improve imaging quality. This solution will reduce cell activity and cause cell damage.

There are still solutions

Using a lensless holographic microscope during real-time inspection of living biological samples enables real-time 3D imaging without the need for pre-processing (such as staining) of biological samples. The reconstructed image of the lensless holographic microscope is reconstructed by a computational imaging algorithm, which can achieve a large field of view and high resolution at the same time to meet user needs.

4. Larger LCD digital microscope
