Will a calibrated coating thickness gauge produce measurement errors?

When calibrating a coating thickness gauge, generally speaking, the inspector has an accurate set of calibration plates to calibrate the coating thickness gauge. The coating thickness gauge is qualified for calibration and the infrared thermometer is used. However, many customers do not have the calibration plates (usually plastic sheets) used before calibration. In the actual use process, we only use accurate calibration plates. This way, calibration is meaningful because the calibration plates are plastic sheets, which are inevitably worn out. It is recommended to replace them with nationally certified standard plates after about 2 years.

How to use the coating thickness gauge correctly? The calibration plates of the coating thickness gauge have been calibrated, but the measured data is still inaccurate?
In the calibration process, we use calibration substrates with the same shape (curvature), material, and roughness for zero point calibration. Coating thickness gauges and calibration plates are also calibrated, but the actual measurement values are still inaccurate. This question seems to be easily overlooked by many people. In fact, it is a simple problem. It is better to use calibration plates that are equivalent to our actual coating thickness. For example, if our actual measured coating is around 70um, we should use calibration plates around 70um for calibration. If the actual measured value is around 500um, you will still use calibration plates around 70um for calibration, which will cause problems. Problem, the coating I actually measured is around 70um, using 500um It is also not possible to calibrate with left and right calibration plates, which is something that everyone should pay attention to when using a coating thickness gauge.
