You don't need a ruler for distance measurement, a hand-held laser rangefinder is enough

Apr 18, 2022

Why is hand-held laser rangefinder so convenient? In fact, the principle is very simple. The laser rangefinder emits a very thin laser beam to the target when it is working, and the laser beam reflected by the target is received by the photoelectric element. It is very common to measure distance by pulse method.

Another way to measure distance is the phase method. The phase laser rangefinder uses the frequency of the radio band to modulate the amplitude of the laser beam and measure the phase delay generated by the modulated light going back and forth to the measuring line, and then according to the wavelength of the modulated light. , to convert the distance represented by this phase delay. That is, the indirect method is used to measure the time required for the light to travel back and forth through the line, and the phase laser rangefinder is generally used in precision ranging.

The distances that can be measured by general hand-held laser rangefinders are usually 40 meters, 60 meters, 80 meters, 120 meters, 160 meters, and 200 meters. However, if you want to measure longer distances, you need to use telescope-type laser ranging. This type of rangefinder measures a long distance, but the accuracy is relatively low, and it is mainly suitable for long-distance measurement in the field.

Can a laser rangefinder only measure distances? Of course it's more than that. Most handheld laser rangefinders today have multiple measurement modes. Length, area, volume and Pythagorean measurements can be performed by adjusting the measurement mode, and the desired data will be automatically calculated.

No matter what is being measured, the issue of accuracy cannot be ignored. Needless to say, the accuracy of the laser rangefinder is unmatched by traditional ruler measurements. The accuracy of handheld laser rangefinders can even reach the millimeter level. What is this concept? Taking the Shendawei SW-M40 series of Jemore Mall as an example, its measurement accuracy is expressed as "1.5mm±d*5/100,000", then when measuring a distance of 40 meters, its measurement The error is only ±3.5mm. No surprise, no surprise!

The hand-held laser ranging is small in size, light in weight, simple in operation, fast in response, and accurate in measurement. These advantages are that it is invincible in indoor ranging work, but it also has a small limitation. The handheld laser rangefinder is used outdoors. During measurement, the measurement accuracy may drop significantly due to the influence of outdoor light pollution. Therefore, if the user needs to measure in an outdoor environment, it is recommended to use a professional laser sight and reflector to achieve the desired effect.
