There Are Three Circumstances in Which An Electric Soldering Iron Won't Heat Up.

Jun 27, 2023

There are three circumstances in which an electric soldering iron won't heat up.

1. Correctly install the iron core of the electric iron
After some internal heating type electric soldering irons are replaced with new soldering iron cores, they are energized for a long time, but the temperature does not go up. Can't even melt tin, the handle is very hot. When checking, if the voltage is normal, you need to remove the soldering iron core to check whether the internal installation is reasonable.

The internal heating type soldering iron core is the same length as the outer tube shell. The correct installation method is to keep the end of the soldering iron core aligned with the end of the outer tube, and not indent or protrude. Only by keeping the alignment can the heat be good. to the tip of the soldering iron.

If the soldering iron core is retracted a lot, the installation of the electric heating core tends to the handle, which makes the heat concentrated on the handle end, and the heat on the soldering iron tip cannot reach the temperature of melting tin.

2. The wiring of the new soldering iron core
An internal heating type soldering iron core was blown out, and the service life was not long even after several replacements.

The lead wire of the newly replaced soldering iron core is too short. There is no room for the soldering iron core to expand and contract when it is cold and hot, which causes the internal thin resistance wire to be broken when the soldering iron core is cold and shrinks after the plug is unplugged.

The correct replacement method: make the lead wire a little longer, 1-2mm, so that it is not easy to burn out. Pay attention to prevent the wire end from being too long to touch the wire, so as not to cause a short circuit fault.

3. Repair the broken heating wire
When the electric soldering iron does not heat up, the broken heating wire needs to be repaired. In the choice of repair method, the twisting method should not be used.

After the hot wire or root lead of the electric soldering iron is disconnected, it is generally reconnected by twisting method. The disadvantage of this method is that the contact is loose and the contact resistance is large, which may easily cause ignition or thermal fuse.

Improvement method: Take out the heating wire, first remove the oxide at the joint, then twist it tightly, and then put a little broken glass and electric ceramic material (6:1) powder around the joint. Power on for a few minutes after installation, the powder is melted and attached to the contacts, it is not easy to fuse, and it is durable.

What is the typical temperature of a soldering iron?
If it is a tinned electric soldering iron, its maximum temperature is about 300 degrees, because the melting point of tin is 231.9 degrees, so it is not possible to solder aluminum, the melting point of aluminum is 660.2 degrees, and welding aluminum should be gas welding.

What is the normal temperature of a soldering iron?
When the electric soldering iron is soldering different things, the temperature is different, and the temperature is different when soldering copper and soldering iron, depending on the actual situation.

Generally, it is between 350 degrees and 400 degrees, as long as it is higher than the melting point of solder.

The highest temperature is generally 480 degrees Celsius, but it is generally ok to set it to about 320~400 degrees. If it is higher, the tip of the soldering iron is easy to oxidize.
