This GVDA Wood moisture meter is versatile with the ability to measure the moisture levels in 7 different categories of materials. In addition to the meter itself, the box includes a carry case, and an extra set of pins. It even has a wrench to change the pins when the time comes. The meter is easy to use with the only downside is that the type of material being tested is indicated by a letter—A,B,C and so on, rather than the material itself. This means that you need to consult the hardcopy operations manual, which doesn’t fit in the carry bag, to make sure the letter displayed on the meter corresponds to the type of material listed under that letter in the hardcopy. A simple function listing the basic category of material on screen would be helpful and, if more information is needed, then consult the manual. However, I would expect that the user would be setting the material category on the one tested the most. Mine would be pine or cedar to determine the moisture level before I paint or stain the house. The display is large, easy to read, and changes color depending on moisture level detected. I took this meter to be tested at the local lumber yard and the accuracy of the meter is consistent with the professional (and much more expensive) meters they use. Overall, a good addition to the toolbox.
