18 Precautions for Using the Electrometer Pen

 

1. The test voltage range of the test pen is usually between 60 and 500 volts.


2. The electric test pen is composed of a metal body at the pen tip, a resistor, a neon tube, a pen body, a small window, a spring and a metal body at the end of the pen.


3. When the electric test pen tests the electrified body, as long as the electrified body, the electric pen, the human body, and the earth form a path, and the potential difference between the electrified body and the earth exceeds a certain value (60 volts), the neon tube in the electric test pen will emit light (Whether its potential is AC or DC), it proves that the object under test is charged and exceeds a certain voltage intensity.


4. When using the electric pen, the part where the human hand touches the electric pen must be the metal on the top of the electric pen, not the metal probe at the front end of the electric pen.


5. Use the test pen to backlight the small window of the neon tube so that you can see the red light emitted when the charged body is charged.


6. After holding the pen, generally touch the top metal with the thumb and forefinger, touch the test point with the tip of the pen, and observe whether the neon tube emits light at the same time. If the neon tube of the test pen glows weakly, it must not be concluded that the voltage of the electrified body is not high enough. It may be that the test pen or the test point of the electrified body is dirty, or the ground wire of the electrified body is tested. Select a test point.


7. After repeated tests, if the neon tube is still off or slightly bright, it can be finally confirmed that the test object is not charged.


8. Using the wrong way to hold the pen to test the charged body will cause electric shock accidents, so special attention must be paid.


9. Electrical operators should concentrate their minds. Before the electric pen is tested to confirm that there is no electricity, all electrical circuits should be regarded as "energized". They should not be touched by hands, and they should not be absolutely trusted in insulators. They should be considered to be operated with electricity.


10. Before working, you should check in detail whether the tools you use are safe and reliable, and wear necessary protective equipment to prevent accidents during work.


11. After taking safety measures (the power failure is complete), a warning sign of "someone is working, no switching on" must be hung on the switch handle or on the line to prevent others from transmitting power halfway.


12. Pay attention to the test voltage range when using the electric pen. It is forbidden to use it beyond the range. The electric pen used in general can only be used at a voltage below 500 volts.


13. All dismantled wires should be properly disposed of during work, and the live wires should be wrapped well to prevent electric shock.


14. The capacity of the wires and fuses used must meet the specified standards, and the selection of switches must be greater than the total capacity of the controlled equipment.


15. After the work is completed, the temporary ground wire must be removed and checked for confirmation.


16. After the inspection is completed, it must be carefully inspected before power transmission to see if it meets the requirements and contact the relevant personnel before power can be transmitted.


17. In the event of a fire, cut off the power immediately, use carbon tetrachloride powder fire extinguisher or yellow sand to fight the fire, and it is strictly forbidden to use water to fight the fire.


18. After the work is over, all staff must evacuate from the work area, remove the warning signs, and then evacuate all materials, tools, instruments, etc., and install the original protective devices at any time.
