5 main uses for clamp ammeters

Usually when measuring current with an ordinary ammeter, the ammeter must be connected in series to the circuit for measurement after the circuit is powered off. This is very troublesome, and sometimes normal operating circuits do not allow this. At this time, it is much more convenient to use a clamp ammeter. The clamp ammeter can measure the current without cutting off the circuit. Just clamp the wire of the current being measured in the jaws. However, the accuracy of clamp meters is generally not high, usually level 2.5 to level 5, and is usually limited to use when the voltage of the line under test does not exceed 500V.

There are many types and styles of clamp ammeters. For example, the T-301 clamp ammeter can only be used to measure AC current, while the T-302 clamp ammeter can measure both AC current and AC voltage. The MG24 pocket clamp ammeter Ammeters can also measure both AC current and AC voltage; there are also MG21 and MG22 AC and DC clamp ammeters, etc. When making measurements, different types of clamp ammeters should be selected according to the different objects being measured. If you only measure AC current, you can choose the T-301 clamp ammeter. If other forms of clamp ammeters are used, the transfer switch should be moved to the required position according to the measurement object.

According to the reading display mode, clamp ammeters include two categories: pointer type and digital type; according to the circuit voltage, there are low-voltage clamp meters and high-voltage clamp meters; according to functions, clamp ammeters include ordinary AC clamp meters, AC clamp meters DC dual-purpose clamp meter, leakage current clamp meter, clamp meter with multimeter, etc. The appearance of clamp meters varies greatly.

Ordinary clamp meters can only be used to measure AC current and cannot measure other electrical parameters. A clamp meter with multimeter function adds the function of a multimeter on the basis of a clamp meter. Its use method is the same as a multimeter.

The working principle of a digital clamp meter is basically the same as that of an analog clamp meter. The difference is that an LCD screen is used to display digital results. The biggest feature is that there is no reading error, the measurement results can be memorized, and you can measure first and then read.
