A Brief Analysis on Pricing of Biological Microscopes

The microscope market is rather fragmented at present due to the large number of manufacturers. After the restructuring of established microscope manufacturers, there is no unified pricing standard. As a result, microscopes of the same model can have widely divergent prices. Take the binocular microscope model XSP‑2C produced in Shanghai as an example. Some suppliers quote a price of over 2,000, while others quote more than 3,000, a difference of several hundred. However, the quality gap is actually small, so buyers need to make careful evaluations during selection.

Binocular microscopes also vary in price by origin, generally ranging from 2000 to 3000. For binocular microscopes of the same type, manufacturers offer different sizes to meet customer demands. Larger models usually have higher production costs and correspondingly higher prices. Exceptions exist, though: some compact models sell in high volumes and are priced higher than larger versions.

If the budget permits, imported microscopes can be considered. Popular imported brands include Olympus, Nikon and Leica. Olympus is one of the most well‑known brands; its CX21 is a best‑selling microscope with a market price of around 9,800. This model is a viable option for universities and research institutes.

For ordinary laboratories, imported microscopes are often unnecessary. Microscopes in these labs are mainly used for student microscopic observation, and domestic models can fully meet the requirements at lower cost. Domestic microscopes offer an economical and cost‑effective choice.
