A Brief Discussion on the Differences Between Portable and Fixed Gas Detectors

 

A diffusion gas detector is a device that detects the slow flow of gas in the detection area, allowing the sample gas to flow into the instrument for detection. This method is affected by the detection environment, such as ambient temperature, airflow, etc.
The characteristic of diffusion gas detector is low cost.

 

The pump suction gas detector is equipped with a small air pump, which works by driving the power supply to extract and sample the gas in the test area, and then sending the sample gas into the instrument for detection.

 

The characteristics of a pump suction flue gas analyzer are fast detection speed, remote measurement for hazardous areas, and maintenance of personnel safety, similar to diffusion gas detectors.

 

The working principle of pump suction and diffusion gas detectors is basically the same. The carbon dioxide analyzer detects the sample gas through the sensor of the instrument and then amplifies and organizes it through the circuit to convert it into the corresponding numerical value displayed on the screen. Catalytic combustion sensors are commonly used for combustible gas detectors, while electrochemical sensors are commonly used for toxic gases.

 

Fixed gas detectors are commonly used in industrial equipment and production processes. The temperature and humidity recorder can be installed at specific detection points to detect specific gas leaks. Fixed detectors are generally two-piece, with a detection head composed of sensors and transmitters installed as a whole on the detection site, and a secondary instrument composed of circuits, power supplies, and display alarm devices installed as a whole in a safe place for easy monitoring. Its detection principle is as described in the previous section, but it is more suitable for the continuous and long-term stability required for fixed detection in terms of process and technology. They also need to be selected based on the type and concentration of the gas on site, and attention should be paid to installing them in the most likely leak location of specific gases, such as selecting the most effective height for sensor installation based on the specific gravity of the gas, and so on.
