Applications of Gas Detectors in Different Scenarios
Determine the application site: Different industrial environments require different types of gas detectors.
A) Fixed Gas Detectors
This type of detector is widely used in industrial installations and production processes. It can be installed at designated monitoring points to detect specific gas leaks. A fixed detector generally consists of two units. The sensing probe, integrating the sensor and transmitter, is mounted on‑site. The secondary instrument, composed of circuits, power supply, display and alarm units, is installed in a safe area for easy monitoring.
Its detection principle is described in the previous section. It is technically optimized for continuous and long‑term stable operation required by fixed‑point monitoring. Selection shall be based on the type and concentration of on‑site gases. Meanwhile, install the sensor at positions where gas leakage is most likely to occur. For example, mount the sensor at an optimum height according to the specific‑gravity of the target gas.
B) Portable Gas Detectors
Portable instruments feature easy operation and compact size, and can be carried to various production locations. Electrochemical detectors powered by alkaline batteries can run continuously for 1000 hours. New‑generation LEL detectors, PID detectors and multi‑gas composite instruments adopt rechargeable batteries (some use memory‑free Ni‑MH or lithium‑ion batteries), enabling nearly 12 hours of continuous operation. Therefore, portable detectors are finding increasingly extensive applications in factories and health‑related departments.
