Applications of Ultraviolet Radiation Lux Meters

 

The best solution to this chaotic situation is to have a unified standard. As for the UV irradiance meters currently used in industrial production, most of them are used for UV curing and UV exposure, measuring the radiation intensity or energy of UV furnaces or UV lamps, with bands in UVA and UVB. There are more instruments used to measure UV radiation energy, commonly known as UV energy meters. For use and calibration, we recommend:


1. Try to use instruments from the same manufacturer and model within the same company as much as possible to facilitate unified measurement values and internal recording and comparison within the company. Using different models of illuminance meters from the same company for measurement may result in significant differences in measurement results.


2. The irradiance of industrial UV lamps is not very stable and uneven, and measurements are taken multiple times. UV lamps usually take some time to stabilize their illumination after being turned on.


3. For many instruments used to measure curing energy, in many cases, only one reading is concerned. For example, based on production experience, a certain instrument measures 1000mJ/cm2 energy and the curing is good. Perhaps this instrument differs greatly from the national standard, but as long as you know that this instrument measures 1000mJ/cm2, it is normal. At this time, the only thing to pay attention to is the annual rate of change of the instrument, or add a correction factor to the instrument according to the data given in the calibration certificate, and record a new reading after correction.


4. Not all instruments can be calibrated according to existing national standards, so when the instrument is detected to have a large measurement error, it is necessary to confirm whether the measurement band of the instrument is consistent with the national standard. If it is not consistent, it can either be sent back to the original factory for inspection or corrected according to the calibration certificate and used as a reference.


5. Due to the special nature of the detector material used in the production of ultraviolet radiation meters, the annual variation rate is still relatively large (especially for domestic instruments, which are relatively better made by foreign instruments), and coupled with frequent use, it is easy to cause value drift. If there is doubt about the value, it is better to send it for inspection in a timely manner.


6. Pay attention to the service life of the ultraviolet radiation meter, especially for ultraviolet radiation meters that are close to or beyond their service life, they should be used with reference.


7. For some special radiation meters that measure large ranges (such as W or J level) and special bands (such as visible light radiation in the UVV band), there is currently no calibration regulation. They can be sent to the original factory, National Institute of Metrology and other units for calibration
