Basic knowledge of how to use a coating thickness measuring instrument

There are generally various types of coating thickness gauges based on measurement principles: magnetic thickness gauge, eddy current thickness gauge, ultrasonic thickness gauge, electrolytic thickness gauge, and radiation thickness gauge. Currently, the most commonly used magnetic thickness gauge and eddy current thickness gauge in China are because these two methods are simple, convenient, accurate, non-destructive, cost-effective, and cost-effective for thickness measurement.

The magnetic coating thickness gauge uses magnetic induction measurement technology to non-destructive measure the thickness of non-magnetic coatings (such as aluminum, chromium, copper, enamel, rubber, paint, etc.) on magnetic metal substrates (such as steel, hardness tester iron, alloy, and hard magnetic steel, etc.).

The eddy current coating thickness gauge uses eddy current measurement technology to non-destructive measure the thickness of non-conductive coatings on non-magnetic metal substrates (such as copper, aluminum, zinc, tin, etc.), such as enamel, rubber, paint, plastics, etc.

These two methods can be combined to form a magnetic eddy current dual-purpose coating thickness gauge, which has strong and comprehensive functions, and is much more cost-effective compared to single use coating thickness gauges. Widely used in manufacturing, metal processing, chemical industry, commercial inspection and other testing fields.

Operation skills for coating thickness gauge:
When using a thickness gauge for measurement, the probe must be perpendicular to the surface of the object being measured;

2. Do not drag the probe during measurement, as it will not only cause wear on the probe but also result in inaccurate measurement results;

3. During measurement, the probe wire should not be excessively bent or shaken at the position where it is connected to the probe (for split type thickness gauges), as this will affect the testing effect and result in inaccurate and stable measurement results;

4. Try to ensure that the thickness gauge is used and kept by a dedicated person;

5. If you feel that the measurement results have a significant deviation, please first use the five randomly equipped plastic calibration sheets for one round of testing. If the deviation is far from the allowable error, it may be due to a problem with the instrument itself, which needs to be returned to the factory for maintenance. Remember not to disassemble and repair it on your own.
