Basic principles of soldering station temperature setting

Oct 17, 2022

The fundamental rules for setting the temperature of a soldering station are:

The lower the welding temperature, the better, with the assumption that it won't impair the welding quality or speed.

Major factors:

Solder PCB board time curve melting point

Time-temperature graph of component heat resistance

Productivity

Temperature curve for adhesive heat resistance when gluing a pad to a PCB

Setting technique:

Set a beginning soldering temperature as a general rule. 350°C for lead soldering, 370°C for lead-free soldering

The operator experiences the welding speed by fine-tuning 5°C down or up.

Finding a workable point by continually doing the second operation will result in the operator having no feeling after altering the point and adjusting the temperature.

This temperature is ideal for soldering.

The quality of the solder joints is greatly influenced by the temperature of the soldering station, which also has a big impact on the life of the soldering iron tip.
