Characteristics and Working Principles of Analog Multimeters
A pointer type multimeter, also known as an analog multimeter, is based on the principle of balancing the torque generated by the current on the pointer of the meter head with the counter torque generated by the balance spring, causing the pointer to deflect a certain angle to indicate the measured size. It has the following characteristics:
High intuitiveness: The pointer type multimeter uses pointers to display measurement results, making reading measurement values more intuitive without relying on a digital display screen.
Easy to use: Compared to digital multimeters, pointer multimeters are easier to operate without the need to be familiar with complex buttons and function settings.
Wide applicability: A pointer multimeter can measure various basic electrical parameters such as voltage, current, and resistance, and is suitable for measurement needs in various electronic and electrical fields.
Lower cost: Compared to digital multimeters, pointer multimeters have a lower price and higher cost-effectiveness for some simple electrical measurement tasks.
However, pointer multimeters also have some drawbacks, such as relatively low accuracy, greater susceptibility to environmental interference, and inability to record data. Due to the limitations of pointer swing range and reading scale, the measurement accuracy of pointer multimeters is usually not as good as that of digital multimeters. Meanwhile, a pointer multimeter is sensitive to environmental factors such as external magnetic fields and vibrations, which may lead to measurement errors. In addition, a pointer multimeter cannot record measurement results and requires manual recording or memorization, which is not convenient for subsequent analysis and reference.
