Comparison of Laser Rangefinders and Ultrasonic Rangefinders
① Accuracy: Ultrasonic rangefinders offer centimeter-level measurement accuracy, while laser rangefinders achieve millimeter-level accuracy.
② Measurement Range: The measurement range of ultrasonic rangefinders is generally within 80 meters. Handheld laser rangefinders can measure up to 200 meters, and laser rangefinders equipped with telescopes can reach several hundred meters or even farther (the measuring range of laser rangefinders with telescopes is usually tens of meters to over one hundred meters).
③ Susceptibility to Interference: Ultrasonic rangefinders are prone to interference. Since they emit sound waves with fan-shaped divergence, the sound waves hit many obstacles, producing numerous reflected echoes and heavy interference, which may lead to false readings. By contrast, laser rangefinders emit an extremely narrow laser beam and receive its reflection. There is almost no interference as long as the laser beam can pass through.
④ Price: Ultrasonic rangefinders cost from tens to hundreds of yuan. Laser rangefinders range from several hundred yuan to several thousand or even tens of thousands of yuan, with wide price gaps depending on accuracy and range.
Therefore, laser rangefinders have been widely used in various industries in our daily lives: interior design, surveying, valuation, power field measurement, fire protection, land surveying, real estate development, stage setup, factory and warehouse inspection, building construction, forestry, engineering design, fire prevention, industrial transmission, traffic accident site investigation, crane calibration, mapping, software vendors, data modeling and other professional fields all adopt handheld laser rangefinders.
