Daily Routine Maintenance for Microscopes

If your microscope is kept in a relatively humid environment, please pay attention to the following points: High indoor humidity is the main cause of mold growth on optical lenses. Once mold forms on lens surfaces, it is extremely difficult to remove. The internal lenses of the microscope are even more vulnerable to moisture damage because they cannot be easily cleaned. In addition, mechanical parts tend to rust after absorbing moisture. For moistureproof storage, select a dry room, and place the microscope away from walls, the floor and moisture sources. For example, put 1 to 2 bags of silica gel desiccant inside the microscope case, and reactivate the silica gel regularly. When it turns pink, bake it promptly for reuse.

Dust Prevention

Users may notice that the image of a microscope becomes less sharp after long-term use. Do not rush to conclude that the microscope itself is of poor quality. The issue is very likely caused by inadequate dust protection. Dust on optical elements blocks light transmission. After being magnified by the optical system, dust will form large smudges and interfere with observation. Dust and grit entering mechanical assemblies will accelerate wear and cause sluggish movement, which is also harmful. Therefore, keep the microscope clean at all times. Cover it with a dust cover when not in use.

Corrosion Prevention

Do not store the microscope together with corrosive chemical reagents such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and strong alkalis.

Heat Protection

This factor should not be overlooked. Heat protection mainly prevents lens cement separation and delamination caused by thermal expansion and contraction.
