Detailed rules for precautions in using coating thickness gauges

1. What material does a coating thickness gauge mainly measure for coatings?

Answer: The coating thickness gauge can measure the thickness of non magnetic coatings on magnetic metal substrates and the thickness of non conductive layers on non magnetic metal substrates.

2. Can a coating thickness gauge measure coatings on non-metallic materials?

Answer: The coating thickness gauge is not yet able to measure the thickness of coatings on non-metallic materials. It can only measure the thickness of coatings on non-magnetic materials and insulation layers on non-ferrous metal materials.

Additionally, for the coating measurement of non-metallic substrate materials, instruments such as electrolysis, X-ray, and ultrasonic coating can be selected. However, various methods have advantages and disadvantages. Electrolysis can damage the material, and X-ray thickness gauges are relatively expensive. The accuracy and stability of ultrasonic coating thickness gauges are not very good. Currently, many users use Haoling thickness gauges to measure through indirect methods, For example, during the spraying process, both metal and non-metallic materials are sprayed simultaneously, and the thickness of the metal coating under the same process is measured to indirectly determine the thickness of non-metallic materials sprayed.

3. Can a coating thickness gauge measure the coating of high-temperature materials?

Answer: The thickness gauge cannot measure high-temperature materials, and in principle, it can only measure materials below 60 degrees Celsius.

4. Can a coating thickness gauge measure the thickness of a nickel plating layer?

Answer: No! Because nickel is both magnetic and conductive, the thickness of the nickel plating layer cannot be measured.

5. Our factory's coating is made of fireproof material with a thickness of 5-8 millimeters. Can we use your factory's products for measurement.

Answer: Optional TT260 with F10 probe can measure coating thickness of 0-10mm.

6. The inner and outer walls of the steel pipe are coated with a coating, can we measure it?

Answer: For the electroplating layer on the inner wall of the pipeline that meets the measurement material requirements, Haoling has a dedicated F1/90 probe. * Small radius requirements:

R>7mm is sufficient.

7. Can chromium plating on copper be measured?

Answer: Eddy current thickness gauges can measure chromium plated workpieces on copper, but the chromium layer must be less than 40um.

8. Can I measure the thickness of film and paper?

Answer: For films and papers that meet the thickness requirements, the thickness can be measured by lining the bottom with a metal substrate. Currently, there are many customers applying this method.

9. Can a thickness gauge measure the thickness of the thread coating on a screw?

Answer: The thickness of the thread coating on screws with relatively small diameters cannot be measured by the instrument at present.
