Development and Classification of Switching Power Supply

Development of switching regulated power supply There are three important development stages of switching regulated power supply: the first stage is the development of power semiconductor devices from bipolar devices (BPT, SCR, GT0) to MOS devices (power MOS-FET, IGBT , IGCT, etc.), making it possible for the power electronic system to achieve high frequency, and greatly reduce the conduction loss, and the circuit is simpler. The second stage began in the 1980s, the research and development of high frequency and soft switching technology made the performance of power converter more stable.

The development of switching power supply

Three important development stages of switching regulated power supply:

The first stage is the development of power semiconductor devices from bipolar devices (BpT, SCR, GT0) to MOS devices (power MOS-FET, IGBT, IGCT, etc.), making it possible for power electronic systems to achieve high frequency and large The conduction loss is significantly reduced, and the circuit is simpler.

The second stage began in the 1980s, the research and development of high frequency and soft switching technology, resulting in better power performance, lighter weight and smaller size. High frequency and soft switching technology is one of the research hotspots in the international power electronics field in the past 20 years.

The third stage began in the mid-1990s, when the integrated power electronic system and integrated power electronic module (IpEM) technology began to develop, which is one of the new problems to be solved urgently in the international power electronics field.

Classification of switching power supply

1. According to the driving mode of the switch adjustment tube: self-excited and other-excited. Introducing a synchronous signal on a self-excited basis can constitute a synchronous switching regulator circuit.

2. According to the control method of voltage stabilization, it can be divided into: pulse width modulation type and pulse frequency modulation type, or a combination of the two to form a mixed modulation type.

3. According to the structural form of the power switch circuit: step-down type, step-up type, reverse type and transformer type.

Advantages and disadvantages of switching power supply

Advantages: low power consumption and high efficiency.

Disadvantages: There is more serious switching interference.
