Differences between Tool Microscopes and Video Measuring Instruments

Ⅰ. Differences in Structural Design

① The video measuring machine features a relatively simple structural design, and its measuring range can be customized to a large size according to customer requirements.

② The tool microscope adopts a compact and precise design. It retains a pure optical measurement system for observation and measurement via eyepieces and objective lenses. Bearing guideways are used for transmission, delivering high measurement accuracy. It can work with various accessories to perform multiple types of measurement tasks.

Ⅱ. Differences in Measurement Operation

① The video measuring machine measures planar 2D workpieces at high speed and is equipped with abundant software functions. Most measurements are completed by software.

② The tool microscope has a wide measurement range. Measurements of some parts rely on accessories. Height measurement can be carried out under high-power objectives. Certain technical skills are required for operators. When equipped with software, it has all the functions of a video measuring machine.

Ⅲ. Differences in Measuring Range

① The video measuring machine is suitable for measuring planar two-dimensional workpieces. However, it is inconvenient, inaccurate or even incapable of measuring cylindrical parts such as cutting tools, threads and lead screws.

② The tool microscope has an extremely broad measuring range. It can be fitted with various accessories including dividing heads, rotary worktables and tailstock assemblies to accurately measure cylindrical and 2D parts.

Therefore, the video measuring machine can be selected for flat workpieces with low precision requirements. The tool microscope is recommended for workpieces requiring high precision or secondary focusing during measurement.
