Discussion on the Necessity of Anti-interference Measures for Infrared Thermometers

During the use of infrared thermometers, they are subject to varying degrees of interference. The degree of interference varies in different application scenarios. This situation has brought a lot of trouble to applications in various fields. Therefore, the anti-interference measures for infrared thermometers and the solutions to interference problems in severe interference situations are another key issue beyond design and development.

Sometimes people are at a loss when faced with interference, and they may not even think that the reason for the problem is interference. Therefore, when infrared thermometers malfunction in situations with strong electromagnetic waves, the primary consideration after ruling out the instrument itself is electromagnetic interference. There was once a case where a steel forging customer reported that one of the nine thermometers provided by our company had malfunctioned shortly after using it. The customer could not analyze the cause themselves, so they sent the infrared thermometer back to the factory for repair. After the thermometer was returned to the factory, it was checked by the technical after-sales department and everything was normal. The thermometer was sent back to the customer, and the customer installed and tested it. After telephone communication, it was estimated that the fault was still caused by on-site interference from the customer. The company sent technicians to handle it on site. After arriving at the site, the technician first checked and found that the induction voltage of the thermometer shell was as high as 20V, And the induced voltage on the iron materials of other devices is also over 20 volts, and there are high-voltage and high-frequency devices around. It is estimated that the interference source comes from the thermometer receiving a huge interference source from other devices through the installation bracket. The technicians decisively isolated the transmission interference path between the infrared thermometer and other devices by installing a rubber pad between the infrared thermometer and the installation bracket, and disconnecting the electrical connection between the circuit board and the shell. After installation, everything was tested and OK, and the fault was eliminated. Other thermometers that did not malfunction were also treated in the same way. The customer has been using it normally until now.

From this, it can be seen that external interference has a huge impact on infrared thermometers, sometimes not only affecting the data during the use of the instrument, but also causing serious damage to the instrument.
