Dry film thickness gauge test method and working principle

Dry film thickness gauge test method and working principle. The dry film thickness gauge can non-destructively measure the thickness of non-magnetic coatings (such as aluminum, chromium, copper) on magnetic metal substrates (such as steel, iron, alloys and hard magnetic steel, etc.) , enamel, rubber, paint, etc.) and the thickness of the non-conductive coating on the non-magnetic metal substrate (such as copper, aluminum, zinc, tin, etc.) (such as enamel, rubber, paint, plastic, etc.). Dry film thickness gauge has the characteristics of small measurement error, high reliability, good stability and easy operation. It is an indispensable testing instrument for controlling and ensuring product quality. It is widely used in manufacturing, metal processing industry, chemical industry, Commodity inspection and other inspection fields.

The probe can only measure dry films and cannot come into contact with water or wet substances.

Note: For accurate measurement, it is recommended to use the same material as the workpiece to be measured or an uncoated workpiece surface for matrix calibration.

The German erichsen 233 dry film thickness gauge uses the level difference between the paint film and the substrate to display the thickness of the paint film. Range from 0-1000 microns in 5 micron increments. Comply with EN ISO, ISO, ASTM, BS, FTMS standards. It is portable, easy to operate and can be used by non-technical personnel. The construction is sturdy and the readings are clear at a glance.
Measurements can be taken on any surface. Since it is all mechanical, it can be applied to glass, wood, metal or plastic substrates.

Measurement procedure
1) Settings
Remove the protective cover and place the instrument vertically on the flat surface of the glass plate. If the pointer reading is not zero, you can adjust it through the slot in the protective cover until the pointer reaches zero.
2) Measuring point preparation
At the measuring point, the coating is carefully scraped over an area of 3 mm until it reaches the substrate.
3) Measurement
Place the instrument over the measurement area so that the pins are in contact with the exposed substrate. The dry film thickness can be read directly in μm.
For soft coatings, place a razor blade under the feet.
