Electronic technology-related technical articles Is the multimeter better with clamps or without?
This depends on the focus of the work, such as the special clamp meter for electrical maintenance of power lines, and the multimeter for electrical maintenance or weak current personnel.
The special clamp meter detects the line current and has high precision. Although it has a single function, it is enough to meet the current detection of the line. Simply put, the current clamp meter is composed of a current transformer and an ammeter. To switch gears during the measurement, the gear must be switched from the wire under test. Because the secondary side of the current transformer will be opened instantly when the gear is changed, if the measured current is large, an instantaneous high voltage will be generated on the secondary side of the current transformer, and the current clamp meter may burn out.
The clamp meter was originally used to detect the alternating current and measure the running line current. It can be seen that the current detection can be carried out under the condition of uninterrupted power supply, and it is specially used to detect high AC current. The functions of current clamp meters are no longer single, and the functions of multimeters are also available in clamp meters.
Therefore, each has its own advantages. If you want to detect the current of the running circuit, you must use a current clamp meter. Do not disconnect the line and directly measure the current. The multimeter must be disconnected to measure. If the equipment cannot be powered off at will during the continuous production process, the multimeter will not be easy to use at this time.
The current clamp meter is no longer the clamp meter of decades ago. It adopts the principle of Hall induction, which can not only measure AC circuit and DC current; , frequency and other parameters. As for the accuracy, it is the same as the digital multimeter, there is no difference.
they differ
If you have to say which one is easier to use, the clamp meter or the multimeter, there are still some differences in their experience during use.
1. The clamp meter can continuously measure the current, which the multimeter cannot do. If you need to measure AC and DC current frequently, it is recommended to buy a clamp meter; if you don’t need to measure current frequently, buy a multimeter.
2. In order to continuously measure the current, the clamp meter must have a jaw, so its body is relatively slender. Because there is no bracket on the back of the clamp meter, I personally feel that the clamp meter is more inclined to be measured in the hand; the multimeter has a bracket on the back, and it is more inclined to measure on the table. So if you often sit at the table for maintenance, it is more convenient to buy a multimeter, otherwise it is very uncomfortable to stretch your neck to look at the screen of the clamp meter.
3. In terms of price, the clamp meter not only has most of the functions of a multimeter, but also has more current transformers, so the price is relatively more expensive.
