Five Precautions for Measuring Short Circuits in a Multimeter Circuit
Use the beep range of a multimeter to measure a short circuit. Connect the probes of the multimeter together. If the multimeter emits a beep sound, it indicates that the circuit is open. When the wires are short circuited, the wires are connected together. Use the multimeter to measure the two wires that are short circuited, and there will be a beep sound, indicating that there is a short circuit.
Before using a multimeter to measure whether the circuit is short circuited, first turn off the main switch of the power supply, and then use the 1 or 10 ohm range of the multimeter to measure the two wire ends of the same group of circuits. When the resistance approaches zero, it indicates a short circuit
1. Mechanical zero adjustment
Before using a multimeter to measure a short circuit, first perform a "mechanical zero" adjustment on the multimeter. When there is no electricity being measured, the pointer of the multimeter should point to the position of zero voltage or zero current.
2. Ensure safety
When measuring whether the circuit is short circuited, do not touch the metal part of the multimeter probe with your hands. This is to ensure accurate measurement and personal safety.
3. Do not shift gears during measurement
When measuring a certain amount of electricity, it is prohibited to shift gears while measuring. When measuring high voltage or high current, it is also prohibited to shift gears during the measurement process to avoid damaging the multimeter.
When using a multimeter to measure a short circuit problem in a circuit, if shifting is necessary, first disconnect the probe, then shift gears, and continue measuring.
4. Horizontal placement
To ensure the accuracy of the measurement results, it is necessary to place the multimeter horizontally when measuring whether the circuit is short circuited.
In addition, pay attention to whether the turnover magnetic field has an impact on the multimeter to avoid external magnetic fields affecting the measurement results of the multimeter.
5. Maximum range of AC voltage
After the multimeter is used, place the conversion switch at the maximum AC voltage level and do not retract the multimeter without shifting it back, in order to affect the measurement accuracy of the subsequent multimeter range.
When the multimeter is not in use for a long time, it is necessary to remove the battery inside the multimeter to prevent the battery from corroding other components inside the meter.
