① Pay attention to the service life of various sensors Generally for portable instruments, the service life of LEL sensors is about three years; photoionization detectors can last four years or longer; electrochemical specific‑gas sensors serve for one to two years; carbon‑monoxide sensor lifetime is approximately one year. The service life of electrochemical sensors depends on electrolyte drying‑up. When not in use for a long time, seal and store them in a low‑temperature environment to extend service life to some extent. Fixed‑type instruments feature relatively larger size and correspondingly longer sensor service life.
② Perform regular calibration and testing Like other analytical instruments, toxic‑hazardous gas detectors adopt the relative‑comparison measuring method. Therefore, real‑time zero‑adjustment and regular calibration are indispensable to guarantee measuring accuracy.
③ Observe the measuring range of the detector Carbon‑monoxide detectors have fixed detection ranges. Accurate measurement can only be guaranteed within the specified measuring range.
④ Watch out for cross‑interference among different sensors Normally each gas‑detector sensor targets one specific gas. When selecting a gas sensor, make every effort to understand interferences from other gases against the sensor.
