Gas detector is a kind of instrumentation tool for gas leakage concentration detection, including: portable gas detector, hand-held gas detector, fixed gas detector, online gas detector, etc.

When choosing a gas detector, you must first determine what gas to detect? In what environment is it used? Need Portable or Stationary? As well as other accompanying features, these factors usually have to be considered. This paper mainly analyzes from two aspects of different industrial environments, airtightness and openness of the environment.

Different industrial environments require different types of gas detectors.

Fixed gas detector: It is mainly used in industrial installations and production processes, and can be installed at specific detection points to detect specific gas leaks. Its detection principle is more suitable for the continuous and long-term stability required by fixed detection. Pay attention to the selection according to the type and concentration of the gas on site.

Portable gas detector: easy to operate, small in size, can be carried to different production sites, on-screen prompts and step-by-step indexes guide users through operations, settings and on-site calibration.

Gas detection should also be considered from the airtight and open aspects of the environment.

Confined space: For workplaces such as reaction tanks, sewers or other underground pipes, underground facilities, tunnels, etc., testing must be performed before personnel enter, and testing must be performed outside the confined space. At this point, a multi-gas detector with a built-in sampling pump must be selected. Because the gas distribution and gas types in different parts (upper, middle, and lower) in the confined space are very different, only in this way can the safety of the staff entering the confined space be ensured.

Open places: such as open workshops, portable gas detectors can be used because it can continuously, real-time and accurately display the concentration of toxic gases on site. At the same time, it is necessary to configure the vibration function to avoid audible alarms in noisy environments, and have the data read-and-storage function to record peaks, etc., to provide specific guidance for workers' health and safety.

Understand the working environment

All kinds of gas detectors have strict requirements for the on-site environment. Generally speaking, the temperature is -20~60℃, the humidity is 0-95%RH, the pressure is 80-120Kpa, etc., including dust, flow, etc. There are strict requirements. Because other impurities in the environment can have a huge impact on the test results, resulting in unforeseen losses. Therefore, when purchasing a gas detector, it is necessary to make a clear description of the working conditions of the operating environment, so as to facilitate the manufacturer to provide corresponding solutions to solve the problem.

Learn about on-site security

Under normal circumstances, the site where the gas detector is installed and used has mandatory requirements such as explosion-proof. The coal, petroleum and chemical industries have very strict requirements on explosion protection, and the instrument itself needs to be explosion-proof and have explosion-proof certification. Other environments may require the gas detector to have certificates such as environmental certification or a measuring instrument license.

Understand the functional requirements for use

The general function of the gas detector is to detect gas concentration and alarm when it exceeds the standard. But users not only need these functions, but also need to have the functions of signal output, current output, digital signal output, voltage output and switch output. There may be some other special requirements such as network interface and wireless signal. At the same time, data recording and processing are also relatively common requirements. These are specific functional requirements that need to be fully considered when selecting a gas detector.
