Hall clamp ammeter test principle

Oct 27, 2022

The magnetic core is made into a tensioned structure, a Hall device is placed at the opening of the magnetic core, and the ring magnetic core is clamped outside the wire through which the measured current flows, and the current flowing in it can be measured. This clamp meter can measure both AC and DC. A circuit for a digital clamp AC ammeter. Clamp meters can be used to perform random current detection on various power supply and electrical equipment.

Measurement principle of AC and DC clamp-on ammeter Generally, Hall is used to test DC current. Because the AC clamp meter cannot use the electromagnetic induction method. The Hall sensors are placed as shown in the diagram below. The generated magnetic flux is proportional to the main DC and AC currents in the clamp head. The Hall sensor detects the magnetic flux and dissipates it as an output voltage.

Hall sensor: is a semiconductor that generates a proportional voltage to the bias current generated by the object under test and generates a magnetic field at the output terminal when the bias current is applied to the input terminal.
