How does one go about calibrating an infrared thermometer?

How to calibrate an infrared thermometer? What are the calibration methods for infrared thermometers? Simply put, the calibration of an infrared thermometer is to determine if it is not accurate, or how to make it accurate. The calibration and measurement department of the infrared thermometer presents two types: inspection report and calibration certificate:
1. Inspection report: It is the temperature point specified by the infrared thermometer for testing, and the criteria are given according to the product standard, whether it is qualified or unqualified.

2. Calibration certificate: It is to detect the designated temperature point of the infrared thermometer and provide a reference value between the standard temperature and the actual reading of your product.

For users, a 'calibration certificate' is better. But neither of these certificates can make products with deviations accurate. To achieve accuracy, especially for infrared thermometers, only manufacturers can do it, which is professionally referred to as "calibration".
In addition, if it is an online infrared thermometer, it can be "calibrated" through other methods.

Calibration of infrared thermometers is a tedious procedure that requires professional personnel to calibrate, and must be done at the metrology department or product manufacturer

Calibration of infrared thermometer
Infrared thermometers must be calibrated to accurately display the temperature of the target being measured. If the thermometer used exceeds the temperature limit during use

In order to measure temperature, align the instrument with the object to be measured, press the trigger to read the temperature data on the instrument's LCD, and ensure that the ratio of distance to spot size and field of view are arranged properly. There are several important things to remember when using an infrared thermometer:

Only measuring surface temperature, infrared thermometers cannot measure internal temperature. Temperature measurement cannot be conducted through glass, as glass has unique reflection and transmission characteristics that do not allow for precise infrared temperature readings. But temperature can be measured through an infrared window. It is best not to use infrared thermometers for temperature measurement on bright or polished metal surfaces (such as stainless steel, aluminum, etc.). To locate hotspots, the instrument aims at the target and then performs up and down scanning movements on the target until the hotspot is determined. Pay attention to environmental conditions such as steam, dust, smoke, etc. It blocks the optical system of the instrument and affects accurate temperature measurement. If the thermometer is suddenly exposed to an ambient temperature difference of 20 degrees or higher, it is allowed to adjust to the new ambient temperature within 20 minutes.
