You shouldn't see replacing sensors as replacing your car's gasoline, it's more like filling up the tank. When the sensor does not have sufficient sensitivity to achieve successful calibration, it can be considered that the fuel tank is not full and should be replaced. As long as there is oil in the fuel tank, the sensor can be used normally.
There is a standard method for gas detectors to confirm the status of sensors and determine how much fuel is still in the tank. It is called retention value. The retention value is a measurement of the sensitivity of the sensor, obtained during the calibration of the detector. At the end of the calibration of the detector, the retention value of each sensor will be displayed and stored in the calibration record of the instrument. When the retention value of the sensor is less than or equal to 50% of the standard gas concentration, the sensor will fail calibration and must be replaced. When the retention value is between 50% and 70% of the standard gas concentration, it indicates that the sensitivity of the sensor is in an edge state. At this time, it is possible to consider replacing the sensor to avoid the situation where the fuel tank is completely empty.
