How to confirm the ground wire and neutral wire with an electric tester?

1. When powered on and measured with an electric pen, the live wire will light up.

2. Disconnect the neutral wire and only connect the live wire. Turn on the lights at home and measure with a pen. The other wire that will light up is the neutral wire.

3. The rest is the ground wire.

Directly use neutral and ground wires
Electric pens cannot measure it, as they are not charged to the ground, so the test pens will not light up. The live line can be determined through an electrical test.

In the presence of residual current protection devices (residual current circuit breakers), it is possible to distinguish between live and neutral wires through experiments. A light bulb can be connected between the live and neutral wires to light up normally, while a light bulb can be connected between the live and ground wires to trip the residual current circuit breaker immediately.

Household electricity is generally single-phase electricity ranging from 220V to 250V, which forms a circuit through live wires passing through loads such as light bulbs and other electrical appliances, and then passing through neutral wires before the electrical appliances can function properly. Electrical appliances with partially metal casings also require a grounding wire to be connected. In case of accidental electrification of the electrical casing, it can be grounded to ensure electrical safety.

In the wiring arrangement and daily maintenance, different colored wires are generally used to distinguish wires for different purposes.

Warm colored wires are generally used for live wires, with the most common being red wires. If pursuing more standardized construction, different circuits can be distinguished by using different colored live wires. In addition to the red wire, yellow and green wires can also be used. However, using multiple colored wires to distinguish will increase the cost of wire procurement to some extent.

Neutral lines generally use cool colored lines, with blue lines being the most common and some also using black lines.

According to the standard, only yellow green dual color wires can be used for ground wires. As ground wires are important for electrical safety, they have very strict color requirements and cannot be replaced with wires of other colors.
