Accurate measurement by thermometer plays a vital role in accurately screening patients with fever. If the temperature is not measured accurately, not only will it not be able to function as it should, but it will add chaos and cause panic.
First of all, everyone needs to understand that human body temperature is divided into body temperature and body surface temperature. In layman's terms, body temperature is the internal temperature of the human body, and body surface temperature is the surface temperature of the human body. To determine whether a person has a fever, look at the body temperature, not the surface temperature.
Thermometers used for body temperature measurement can be divided into two categories:
Contact and non-contact thermometers
Contact thermometers include: glass thermometer and medical electronic thermometer
Non-contact thermometers include: infrared forehead thermometer, infrared ear thermometer, infrared screening instrument, thermal imaging camera, etc.
Relatively speaking, contact thermometer measurements are the most accurate. If non-contact thermometers are sorted by accuracy:
Infrared ear thermometer>Infrared forehead thermometer/some thermal imaging cameras>Infrared screener/some thermal imaging cameras.
Infrared forehead thermometers, infrared screening machines and thermal imaging cameras are most commonly used in this epidemic prevention and control work.

Infrared thermometers have high environmental requirements and are prone to deviations if used improperly. For example, the required use environment of infrared thermometers is (16~35) ℃, and it is winter now, and the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor is large. If the room temperature of the community guard room is 20°C and the body temperature of outside visitors is checked, it is very likely that the body temperature will be lower than 35°C. Therefore, at highway toll stations, it is required to turn off the air conditioner in advance and roll down the windows to reduce the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the car and reduce the measurement error. In addition, whether the measurement object has bangs and whether or not the face cream is applied will cause measurement errors. The last step is to measure the distance. The distance according to the instruction manual or (3~5) centimeters is fine. However, if it is placed close to the forehead, the measurement will be inaccurate.
The measurement calibration of different thermometers needs to refer to different national standards.
For thermometers with large errors, they can be used with confidence after being sent to the measurement department for verification or calibration.
