How to Judge the Quality of a Piezoelectric Ceramic with a Multimeter

Piezoelectric ceramics are artificially synthesized piezoelectric materials. When subjected to external pressure, electric charges are generated on both surfaces, with the amount of charge being directly proportional to the pressure. This phenomenon is known as the piezoelectric effect. Due to their piezoelectric effect, piezoelectric ceramic sheets can deform under an external electric field, making them suitable for use as sound-generating components.

The piezoelectric effect of piezoelectric ceramic sheets can be utilized with a multimeter to determine their functionality.

Here's how to test them:

Lead out two wires from the two electrodes of the piezoelectric ceramic sheet and place the sheet flat on a table.

Connect the two wires to the two probes of the multimeter, and set the multimeter to the minimum current range.

Gently press the ceramic sheet with the eraser tip of a pencil and observe the movement of the multimeter's pointer.

If the multimeter pointer swings significantly, the ceramic sheet is intact.

If there is no noticeable movement, the ceramic sheet is damaged.
