The microscopic world that is invisible to the naked eye is another magical sight. Without a microscope, we rarely have the opportunity to observe that magical world, but now you have a chance!

This tutorial will teach you how to make a phone stand that turns your phone into a high-powered digital microscope! Its effect can reach the level of a general laboratory microscope, and the magnification can reach 175 times. Through it, the cells and nuclei of plants can be easily observed. In addition to observing cells, it can also be used to do stunning macro shots.

1. Tools and Materials

The cost of the whole stand is only a few dozen yuan (mobile phones are not counted, this tutorial uses iPhone4s), and the production process takes about 20 minutes.

Material:

3 bolts, 9 matching nuts, 2 matching wing nuts, 5 matching washers

1 piece of plywood

2 pieces of plexiglass

Laser pointer diagonal lens (removed from the laser pointer)

LED light (used when observing specimens that require backlighting)

tool:

electric drill

drill

ruler

2. Take the condenser lens from the laser pointer

You can get the lens you need from any laser pointer, and you can get the lens for 9 yuan on the X treasure. You don't need to waste money to buy that kind of good.

3. Several precautions for condenser lens

Viewed from the side of the lens, the lens is not symmetrical. There is a translucent strip about 1mm thick on one side of the lens, which must not be facing the phone camera.

You can test it with a hairpin clipping the lens in front of the camera, and if the orientation is correct, you should be able to see a larger field of view from the inside of the phone.

It's very inconvenient to hold such a small lens, and it can't hold steady when taking pictures, which is why we need to make a stand.

Fourth, drill bolt holes

5. Embedded lens

Find a drill that is the same diameter as the lens or slightly smaller. The drilled holes are on the same line as the 2 bolts.

If the drilled hole is not just right, carefully sand it with sandpaper or a sanding head, don't make it bigger!

The lens should be as close as possible to the phone camera. If you don't have a case on your phone, let the lens and the plexiglass face level, or if you have a case, let the lens protrude a little to get closer to the lens.

6. Drill holes for the light source

The light source must be directly under the condenser lens.

The best way to locate the light source is to slide the phone stand to the very bottom and mark it with a pencil from the hole in the condenser lens.

7. Assembly

8. Use

The first layer is a plexiglass lens, and the second layer is a carrier layer, which can be adjusted by adjusting up and down.

To adjust the nut, the mobile phone needs to be placed as horizontally as possible, and there are many APPs that can assist.
