How to use a clamp ammeter correctly? What should you pay attention to when using it?

1. Before measurement, check whether the rubber insulation of the clamp core is intact. The jaws should be clean, rust-free, and have no obvious gaps when closed.

2. When measuring, you should first estimate the size of the current being measured and select the appropriate range. If it is impossible to estimate, you can first select a larger range, then reduce it step by step and switch to the appropriate gear. When changing the measuring range, it must be done without power or with the jaws open to avoid damaging the instrument.

3. When measuring, the wire under test should be placed in the middle of the jaws as much as possible. If there is noise on the joint surface of the jaws, it should be opened and closed again. If there is still noise, the joint surface should be processed to make the reading accurate. In addition, do not clamp two wires at the same time.

4. When measuring current below 5A, in order to obtain a more accurate reading, if conditions permit, you can wind the wire a few more times and put it into the jaws for measurement. The actual current value should be the meter reading divided by the wire placed in the jaws. The number of.

5. Before and after each measurement, the switch for adjusting the current range should be placed in the highest position to avoid damage to the instrument due to measurement without selecting the range the next time it is used.

Precautions
When using a clamp ammeter to detect current, be sure to clamp a conductor (wire) being measured. If two (parallel wires) are sandwiched, the current cannot be detected.

In addition, when using the center (core) detection of the clamp ammeter, the detection error is small. When checking the power consumption of home appliances, it is more convenient to use a line splitter. Some line splitters can amplify the detection current by 10 times, so currents below 1A can be amplified before detection.

When using a DC clamp ammeter to detect DC current (DCA), if the current flows in the opposite direction, a negative number will be displayed. You can use this function to detect whether the car's battery is charged or discharged.
