How to use a refractometer to ensure more accurate measurement results
A refractometer is an instrument used to measure the purity of substances and is an important instrument in the laboratory. As a measuring instrument, its accuracy needs to be relatively high. So how can we maintain its accuracy? The answer is to constantly calibrate. As the number of uses increases and other external factors such as temperature and air affect its accuracy, it is easy to change. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously conduct internal calibration to ensure that its accuracy and precision meet the requirements. The calibration should be carried out in a constant temperature circulating water bath and distilled water environment, and the process should be strictly executed. The specific steps are as follows:
Step 1: Flip down the prism open/close handle onto the * * prism, then fully open the prism to the left with the handle, wipe off the main prism and its surface, drop a small drop of distilled water on the main prism, and gently close the prism.
Step 2: Connect a constant temperature circulating water bath and set the temperature to 20 ℃. Observe and adjust the measurement knob on the eyepiece so that the upper reading screen reads around 1.3330.
Step 3: Observe the refractive screen at the bottom again, and you can see the color boundary near the intersection line. Adjust the color compensation knob to fade, and stop adjusting when the dividing line becomes neither red nor blue. Due to the fact that the red edge is exactly above the dividing line and the blue edge is below, the absence of red and blue at the midpoint indicates that the color has been fully compensated.
Step 4: Adjust the measurement knob so that the dividing line is exactly at the intersection, then remove the cap from the calibration section and adjust the calibration screw counterclockwise, using an Allen wrench.
