Introduction to the Usage of Clamp Meters

Clamp current meter, also known as clamp meter, is a specialized electrical instrument for measuring alternating current. Generally used in situations where current is measured without disconnecting the circuit. The commonly used instruments nowadays are multifunctional digital displays or pointer displays.

When using a clamp ammeter, one should first carefully understand the user manual and operating methods, the functions of each button, and clearly grasp important parameters such as the highest voltage or current tested. Then carefully inspect the appearance for any damage, as well as the cleanliness, especially the insulation and placement of the probes. Especially before each measurement, it is necessary to check whether the switch is correct and whether the probe socket is selected correctly.

After all checks are completed and everything is in good condition, it is necessary to make a rough estimate of the current being measured, and then select a gear that is greater than the estimated value. At the beginning of use, there may be unstable hop counts, and it is necessary to wait for a period of time until the displayed value stabilizes before reading.

When using a clamp ammeter, adjust the gear according to the different circuits being measured. Then, hold the insulated part of the hand and press the switch with your thumb. At this point, the clamp will open, and then carefully place the wire to be measured in the center of the iron core. Release the switch, and the iron core will automatically close. Due to the alternating magnetic field lines generated by the current in the measured wire under the action of the iron core, the current value in the wire can be measured and displayed on the screen. When the value is in a stable state, it can be directly read. If there is noise when the wire is placed in the center of the iron core during the measurement process, it should be removed and placed again, but two wires cannot be placed at the same time to ensure the accuracy of the counting.

After the measurement is completed, it is necessary to set the current gear of the clamp ammeter to the highest level to avoid forgetting the high gear and damaging it before the next use. Moreover, as a precision measuring instrument, after use, the battery should be removed and stored in a safe, dry place, away from objects that can generate magnetic fields, to ensure the accuracy of the instrument's measurement. If you are not familiar with the usage method, it is forbidden for one person to measure the current alone.
