Is electromagnetic radiation from base stations harmful to human health

Today, we will popularize knowledge about electromagnetic radiation. Through this article, I hope to help everyone better understand electromagnetic radiation and protect themselves better.

When we talk about electromagnetic waves, we focus more on how much convenience they have brought to our lives, especially in the era of 5G, where everything is interconnected. Our phones, computers, iPads, and children's watches are all the best examples of electromagnetic wave applications and the closest electromagnetic wave to us. But when we give electromagnetic waves a different name, everyone may feel uncomfortable. In fact, electromagnetic waves are a type of electromagnetic radiation. The term radiation is particularly eye-catching, and students who have watched the American drama Chernobyl must be horrified by the enormous harm nuclear radiation brings to people.

Electromagnetic radiation can be divided into two types: ionizing radiation and non ionizing radiation. Broadly speaking, electromagnetic radiation includes a wide frequency range and a wide wavelength distribution, ranging from several tens of meters of long wave radiation to gamma rays with only a few nanometers. This includes radio waves and microwaves used in television broadcasting and wireless communication, as well as ultraviolet, infrared, visible light, X-rays, gamma rays, and so on. Non ionizing radiation cannot separate electrons from the atoms of an object and does not alter the molecular structure of the object, while ionizing radiation can separate electrons from the atoms of an object, alter the molecular structure of the object, and directly cause damage to cells in organic matter. For example, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays, and gamma rays are ionizing radiation. Fortunately, the radio waves and visible light that we are most exposed to in our daily lives are non ionizing radiation, which poses less harm to the human body. But we cannot turn a blind eye.

Harms to the cardiovascular system
Braun et al. exposed human volunteers to RF-EMW and reported elevated blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) at 900 MHz for 35 minutes in their 1998 experiment. Blood pressure increases by 5 ° 10 mmHg, accompanied by significant reduction in capillary perfusion due to vascular depletion.

Harms to sleep
In the experiment conducted by Hu Bo et al. in 2000, although no significant changes were found in sleep quality, exposure to 900MHz electromagnetic radiation for 30 minutes significantly increased the time it took to fall asleep, leading to insomnia over time.

Increase the probability of cancer occurrence
The carcinogenic potential of mobile phone radiation is one of the most contradictory aspects in various studies conducted. In order to raise public awareness that mobile phone exposure may lead to cancer, Hardell et al. (2006) conducted a study based on epidemiological questionnaires and concluded that astrocytoma (III-IV grade) and acoustic neuroma do indeed show a positive correlation with mobile phone usage.
