Is it better to use a soldering iron internally or externally?

Heat element in the soldering copper head of the internal", or explained as "its iron head set in the external heat generator", so that the heat from the inside to the iron head, has a hot fast, high heating efficiency, small size, light weight, power consumption, use of dexterity and other advantages. Suitable for welding small components. But due to the high temperature of the soldering iron head is easy to oxidise black, the iron core is easy to be broken, and the power is small, only 20W, 35W, 50W and so on several specifications.

Definition of external heat soldering iron
External heat means heat outside due to the heating resistance in the outside of the iron head and the name. It is suitable for soldering both large components and small components. There are 25W, 30W, 50W, 75W, 100W, 150W, 300W and so on.

Structure
First of all, there is a big difference in the structure of the soldering iron head, the endothermic soldering iron head is hollow, because the heating core is built-in, and the exothermic soldering iron head is solid, and its heating core is external.

The externally heated soldering iron consists of a soldering iron head, a core, a housing, a wooden handle, a power lead, a plug and other parts. As the iron head is installed inside the iron core, it is called external heat type soldering iron. Soldering iron core is the key component of the soldering iron, it is the electric wire parallel winding in a hollow porcelain tube composition, the middle of the mica sheet insulation, and lead to two wires and 220V AC power supply connection. There are many specifications of external hot soldering iron, commonly used 25W, 45W, 75W, 100W, etc. The higher the power, the higher the temperature of the soldering iron head.

Endothermic soldering iron consists of handle, connecting rod, spring clip, soldering iron core, soldering iron head. As the iron core is installed inside the iron head, it heats up quickly and has a high heat utilisation rate, so it is called an endothermic soldering iron. The common specifications of endothermic soldering iron are 20W and 50W. Due to its high thermal efficiency, 20W endothermic soldering iron is equivalent to about 40W exothermic soldering iron. Endothermic soldering iron's back end is hollow, for socketed on the connecting rod, and fixed with a spring clip, when you need to replace the head of the iron, you must first exit the spring clip, and at the same time, use pliers to hold the head of the iron at the front, and slowly pull it out, and remember not to use too much force, so as not to damage the connecting rod.

From the soldering iron construction diagram you can see very clearly. External heat type heating core is separate from the iron head has a heating cylinder in the middle.

Use
The head of the external heat type soldering iron is inside the heat generating core, which is also called common soldering iron. Soldering ordinary products, there is no requirement for the temperature with external heat type soldering iron. Due to the heating resistance wire in the outside of the iron head, most of the heat is emitted to the external space, so the heating efficiency is low and the heating speed is slow. Generally have to preheat 6 to 7 minutes to weld. Its volume is large, welding small devices appear to be inconvenient. However, it has the advantages of longer use of the iron head and higher power.

Endothermic soldering iron, endothermic soldering iron used in the shape of the soldering iron head is hollow cylinder, the heating element by the iron head set, so that its heat is not easy to disseminate to the air, so the heat utilisation efficiency is higher, shorter preheating time, and the power generally do not have to do too much to meet the requirements of the general endothermic power of 50W or less, common 20W ~ 30W or so endothermic soldering iron. There is a single handle, there is also a soldering station. 936 soldering station is a typical endothermic soldering iron, but at the same time is also a constant temperature. Nowadays, they are lead-free soldering irons (lead-free soldering stations), which work better than the first two.
