Methods for the care and maintenance of an infrared thermometer

The main performance indicators of infrared thermometers include spectral response, response time, repeatability, and emissivity. Fixed infrared thermometers are used in the glass and ceramic industry, paper and packaging industry, various kiln temperature measurement applications, and chemical industry to measure the temperature of instruments and meters, in order to detect the operating status of instruments and ensure their normal operation.

There are several factors that can cause damage to online thermometers, including:
The first type: moisture factor. Infrared thermometers are usually affected by factors such as moisture, rain, dew, etc. Dew formed by moisture is the main factor causing outdoor humidity. Dew is more harmful than rain because it adheres to materials for a longer period of time, causing more severe moisture absorption. If the surface aging layer of the wood coating is removed by rainwater washing, the unaged inner layer will be exposed to sunlight, resulting in further aging. In the simulation experiment of infrared thermometer, the mechanism of composite material damage caused by humid environment has been well studied. Taking the diffusion of moisture into carbon fiber epoxy resin laminates as an example, this paper illustrates the aging mechanism of composite materials in humid atmospheric environments.

The second type: lighting factor. The structural composition of different products of infrared thermometers also varies in terms of the intensity of light exposure. For example, durable materials such as plastics, coatings, etc., when exposed to light, do not experience severe aging. So it is necessary to analyze the material composition of the product equipment.

The third type: high temperature factor: When the surrounding temperature rises due to high temperature, it will increase the intensity of light and the degree of damage. There is no direct chemical reaction between temperature and light, but there is a subtle connection between them. So when testing programmable infrared thermometers, it is important to grasp the precise temperature range of use.

These three factors are crucial for the impact of product equipment, and any one of them can quickly shorten the service life of the thermometer.

Research on infrared thermometers has shown that the decrease in modulus of epoxy resin caused by water is reversible. When the external environment changes and moisture diffuses out, the amount of resin film can almost return to its original value. However, for many water absorption processes, the property changes caused by water are irreversible. Irreversible changes will lead to a significant reduction in the physical and mechanical properties of the material. At the same time, infrared thermometers can be programmed to simulate the humid atmospheric environment to detect the anti-aging properties of the material. So we also need to pay more attention to details when operating online thermometers in order to better utilize such instruments.
