Methods to Prolong the Service Life of Metallurgical Microscopes

Methods to Extend the Service Life of a Metallurgical Microscope: Observe the following points when operating the microscope (illustrated with the operation of a metallurgical microscope):

① If conditions permit, the laboratory is recommended to meet three protection requirements: shockproof (keep away from vibration sources), moisture-proof (use air conditioners and desiccators), and dust-proof (lay floor covering). Power supply: 220 V ±10%, 50 Hz; temperature range: 0 °C – 40 °C.

② Take care not to let the objective lens touch the specimen during focusing, to avoid scratching the lens.

③ Do not switch objective lenses when the center of the hole on the stage insert is offset from the center of the objective lens, so as to prevent lens scratches.

④ Avoid abrupt, large fluctuations in brightness, and do not use excessive brightness, which shortens bulb life and harms eyesight.

⑤ Perform all function switching operations gently and completely.

⑥ Turn the brightness down to the minimum before powering off.

⑦ Non-professional personnel shall not adjust the illumination system (filament position), otherwise the imaging quality may be impaired.

⑧ Be cautious of high temperature when replacing halogen lamps to prevent burns; do not touch the glass body of the halogen lamp directly with hands.

⑨ When the microscope is powered off and not in use, lower the objective lens to the lowest position via the focusing mechanism.

⑩ Do not immediately cover the microscope with the dust cover after shutdown. Wait for it to cool down before covering, and pay attention to fire prevention.

The above are key precautions. Please operate the microscope carefully. If you encounter unsolvable problems, contact the microscope supplier by phone promptly.
