Multimeter use - automotive voltage measurement
1. The knob should be set to V when measuring the DC voltage of the car, and the other direction should be used when measuring the AC voltage, and the range equivalent to the measured voltage on the car should be selected. If the measured voltage is unknown, the maximum range should be selected for the test.
2. When measuring DC voltage in a car, the positive test lead of the multimeter should be connected to the high potential end of the component under test, and the negative test lead to the low potential end. If you cannot determine which end has the highest potential, you can tentatively touch the test lead to the two ends of the tested component. If the pointer is biased to the "-" side of the zero line of the DC voltage V, it proves that the test leads are reversed.
It is easy to bend the pointer when the test pen is reversed, resulting in inaccurate readings. In order to prevent backlash, the range should be selected higher when trying to touch, and the action should be quick.
