Must-read Tips for Prolonging the Service Life of Large Metallurgical Microscopes

Through the introduction in the article about metallographic microscopes, we have gained a basic understanding of this instrument. However, in daily operation, we need to learn how to maintain large metallographic microscopes to achieve longer service life. Below are compiled operation precautions and maintenance methods.

① Do not touch the lens with hands during use to prevent lens mildew.

② Specimens must be blown dry before observation to avoid water stains contaminating the lens.

③ Do not place heavy objects on the stage when it is not in use, to prevent damage to the lifting mechanism.

④ All lenses of the instrument have been calibrated and must not be disassembled without authorization. If dust adheres to the lens, first blow away dust with an air blower, then wipe off residual dust with a soft brush.

⑤ Before powering on, set the light brightness knob to the minimum position. Cut off the power immediately after use to extend the service life of the tungsten halogen lamp.

⑥ The microscope shall be placed in a cool, dry, dust-free area free from acid, alkali and vapors. Cover the instrument when not in use.

⑦ The mechanical parts of the instrument shall be cleaned and wiped regularly. All moving components should be cleaned and coated with non-corrosive lubricant.
