Polarization microscope and application of polarization in daily life

Generally speaking, natural light is shear wave, and the vibration direction is in all directions. Put a grating in front of the light, and this grating only allows the light that vibrates in a certain direction to pass through, then the light that passes through the grating is polarized light.

Polarizing microscope is a kind of microscope used to study so-called transparent and opaque anisotropic materials. Substances with birefringence can be clearly distinguished under a polarizing microscope. Of course, these substances can also be observed by dyeing, but some are impossible, and a polarizing microscope must be used. Polarizing microscope is an essential instrument to study and identify birefringent substances by using the polarization characteristics of light, which can be used for users to observe single polarization, orthogonal polarization and cone light.

Application field:
Geology and mineral analysis: such as the analysis of minerals and crystals.
Biological field: in organisms, different fibrin structures show obvious anisotropy, and the details of molecular arrangement in these fibers can be obtained by polarizing microscope. Such as collagen, spinning silk during cell division, etc.
Identification of various biological and non-biological materials: such as starch property identification, drug composition identification, fiber, liquid crystal, DNA crystal, etc.
Medical analysis: such as calculus, uric acid crystal detection, arthritis, etc.

Application of polarized light-automobile lamp
When a car runs on the highway at night and meets the opposite vehicle, in order to avoid the glare of the headlights on both sides, drivers turn off the headlights and only turn on the small lights to slow down the speed to avoid an accident. For example, both the front window glass of the cab and the glass cover of the headlights are equipped with polarizers, and it is stipulated that their polarization directions are all along the same direction and make an angle of 45 degrees with the horizontal plane. Then, the driver can only see the light from his own headlights from the front window, but not the light from the opposite headlights. In this way, when the car is driving at night, it is not necessary to turn off the lights or slow down, which can ensure the * * driving.

Application of Polarization-Stereo Film
When shooting a three-dimensional film, two cameras are used. The lenses of the two cameras are equivalent to two eyes of a person. They take two portraits of the same object at the same time, and the two portraits are reflected on the screen at the same time. If you try to make one eye of the audience see only one of the pictures, you can give the audience a three-dimensional sense. Therefore, during the screening, a polarizer is placed on the lens of each player of the two players, and the polarization directions of the two polarizers are perpendicular to each other. The audience wears glasses made of polarizers, and the polarization direction of the left-eye polarizer is the same as that of the left-hand player and the polarization direction of the right-eye polarizer is the same as that of the right-hand player.
