Selection Principles of Toxic Gas Detectors

Aug 24, 2026

Selection Principles of Toxic Gas Detectors

① Select a suitable toxic gas detector according to the toxic gases that require monitoring and alarming in the workplace.

② The detection range, detection and alarm accuracy, selectivity, service life and other parameters of the toxic gas detector shall meet alarm requirements. The detector shall feature resistance to poisoning damage.

③ Select an appropriate toxic gas detector according to the environment and working conditions of toxic gas emission sources and release points.

④ Choose toxic gas detectors with different structural forms based on workers' operation modes.  ④.1 Fixed toxic gas detectors are recommended for toxic workplaces where workers stay regularly.  ④.2 Mobile toxic gas detectors are recommended for toxic gas workplaces where workers operate for a short time.  ④.3 Portable toxic gas detectors shall be equipped for sites where fixed or mobile detectors cannot be installed, temporary toxic working areas, or emergency accident scenarios.

Functional and Quality Requirements for Toxic Gas Detectors

① The detector shall be selective to target toxic gases, resist interference from non-target gases, and provide accurate readings and alarms.

② The detector shall cover the designated monitoring area and realize effective detection and alarm for toxic gases released within this zone.

③ The detector shall support automatic compensation for ambient temperature and humidity changes. It shall be protected against mechanical damage, rain, wind and sand, and equipped with anti-electromagnetic interference functions to prevent signal distortion.

④ The detector shall be equipped with reliability functions including zero adjustment, calibration and fault alarm.

⑤ The alarm mode of the detector shall enable workers to respond promptly. Linkage with control devices is available when necessary.

⑥ Detectors shall comply with GB 12358. Instruments used in explosive hazardous areas shall meet GB 50058 and GB 3836.1. Other components and transmission cables shall conform to relevant standards and specifications.

⑦ All technical indicators of the detector shall remain compliant within the specified calibration interval.

The above points cover key considerations for toxic gas detectors. Sufficient preparation shall be made before toxic gas detection in compliance with selection principles and relevant specifications.
