Several introductions to power connection cables

For different positioning power supplies, the number of output wires varies, but they all rely on the nine colors of green flowers: yellow, red, orange, purple, blue, white, gray, green, and black. All sound pC power supplies come with these 9 colors of wires (currently mainstream power supplies eliminate white wires).

Yellow:+12V
The yellow line should be one of the more numerous types in the power supply. With the addition of optical and floppy drives, the spindle motor and seeking motor provide power, as well as the working voltage and serial device logic signal level for the ISA slot+ When the voltage output of 12V is abnormal, it often causes unstable reading performance of hard drives, optical drives, and floppy drives. When the voltage is low, it is manifested as severe disc picking in the optical drive, an increase in logical bad tracks in the hard drive, and frequent occurrence of bad tracks, making the system prone to crashes and unable to function properly. When the speed of the optical drive is too high, it is easy to lose control and explode, resulting in stalling and spinning of the hard drive. At present, if there is a shortage of+12V power supply, it will directly affect the performance of the pCI-E graphics card and affect the CpU, causing a crash.

Blue: -12V
-A voltage of 12V is used to provide a logical judgment level for the serial port, which requires a small current, usually below 1A. Even if the voltage deviation is too large, it will not cause a fault, because the 0 level of the logic level ranges from -3V to -15V, with a wide range.

Red:+5V
The number of+5V wires is equivalent to that of yellow wires. The+5V power supply is the working voltage provided to integrated circuits such as CpU and pCI, AGp, ISA, etc. It is the main working power supply in computers. At present, CpU uses a hybrid power supply of+12V and+5V, and the requirements for it are no longer as high as before. The latest version of IntelATX12V2.2 only enhances the+5V power supply capability and enhances the power supply of dual core CpU. The quality of its power supply directly affects the stability of the computer system.

White: -5V
At present, there are very few commercially available power supplies with white wires, and white -5V is also used to determine the level of logic circuits. It requires a very small current and generally does not affect the normal operation of the system. It is basically optional.

Orange:+3.3V
This is specifically designed for ATX power supply to provide power. In the latest 24 pin main interface power supply, emphasis has been placed on strengthening the+3.3V power supply. The voltage requirement is strict, the output is stable, the ripple coefficient should be small, the output current should be large, and it should be over 20 amperes. Some mid to high end motherboards use high-power field transistors to control the power supply of the memory for safety reasons, but they may also burn out the transistor due to the memory plug. The platform uses+2.5VDDR memory and+1.8VDDR2 memory, and voltage conversion circuits are installed on the motherboard.

Purple:+5VSB (+5V standby power supply)
The ATX power supply provides+5V720MA power to the motherboard through pIN9, which supplies power to the WOL (Wake up OnLan), startup circuit, USB interface, and other circuits. If you do not use functions such as network wake-up, please turn off these functions and remove the jumper to prevent these devices from taking current from the+5VSB power supply end. The power supply quality of this output directly affects the power consumption of the computer during standby, which is directly linked to our electricity bill.

Green: p-ON (power switch end)
Control the power on through the level. When the signal level of the port is greater than 1.8V, the main power supply is turned off; If the signal level is below 1.8V, the main power supply is turned on. Use a multimeter to test the output signal level of this pin, usually around 4V. Because the voltage output by this pin is the signal level. Here is a preliminary way to determine the quality of a power supply: use a metal wire to short circuit the green port and any black port. If the power supply does not respond, it indicates that the power supply is damaged. Many power supplies nowadays have added protective circuits. After short circuiting the power supply, if there is no additional load, it will automatically shut down. Therefore, everyone needs to carefully observe the instantaneous start of the power supply
