The principle of refractometer and its application in beverage, food, sauce, agriculture and forestry

A refractometer is an optical instrument that uses the principle of refraction to easily and quickly measure the refractive index (nD), sugar content (Brix) and concentration of a solution.

Refractive index: Also known as relative refractive index, it is a graduated hand-held refractometer: also known as sugar mirror, hand-held sugar meter. Small, easy to carry, visual readout.

Handheld digital refractometer: compact, easy to carry, digital readout.

Abbe refractometer: high precision, easy operation, fast measurement, no consumption of chemical reagents, no chemical pollution

Online refractometer: It can monitor the refractive index, Brix, various custom concentrations and temperature of samples in real time on the production line to ensure production safety.

First, the application of refractometer

1. Food and beverage industry:

l A: (carbonated beverage) - processing and finished product Brix value control;

l B: (fruit and vegetable juice, herbal tea beverage) - raw material harvest sugar content and acidity control, beverage processing process and finished product Brix value control;

l C: (milk milk beverage) - the concentration control of milk raw material purchase, water mixing, milk dry matter concentration control and finished product Brix value control during milk beverage processing;

2. Flavor and fragrance industry: measuring refractive index for raw material testing and QC testing of production enterprises

3. Sauce industry: measurement of concentration and Brix value of various jams such as ketchup, strawberry jam, blueberry jam, etc.

4. Condiment industry: total concentration and salinity measurement of various garlic sauce, hoisin sauce, salad dressing, soy sauce, etc.

5. Sugar industry: the sugar content of various syrups such as sucrose, honey, maltose, HFCS-55, HFCS-42, etc. is determined by dry matter content control

6. Catering industry: used for the purchase and acceptance of food, sauces, fruits and other raw materials, QC quality control of various beverages, coffee, soups and other products to ensure quality consistency; detection of sugar content, total concentration, salinity

7. Alcohol industry:

l A: Wine, rice wine, fruit wine, etc. are used for sampling testing of winemaking raw materials (grape, grain fermentation broth), total wine concentration control, sugar content and acidity control, purchase rating, water mixing judgment, etc.

l B: Detection of beer original wort concentration, sugar content and total concentration of finished products

8. Agroforestry:

l A: (agricultural planting and production industry) - soil moisture monitoring during the production period, fruit and vegetable picking determination, maturity monitoring, sugar content and acidity control

l B: (Vegetable and fruit trade) - traders wholesale rapid sampling sugar content testing, grading and packaging, purchase and grading, sales pricing, such as: natural ripening and ripening fruits and vegetables sugar content difference, different ripening sugar content difference

l C: (Supermarket store) - Purchase acceptance, fruit sugar grading pricing (for special groups, diabetics and fructose sensitive)

l D: (University, Research Institute and Agriculture and Forestry Bureau) - Cultivation guidance, maturity monitoring; quality improvement and development of new varieties, agricultural processing, etc.

9. Fisheries:

l A: (mariculture) - monitoring of seawater salinity and specific gravity of seawater

l B: (Seafood processing) - salinity, processed food concentration control

5. Sugar measurement
