Things to note when using sound level timers

A sound level meter is an instrument that measures sound pressure level and sound level based on certain frequency weighting and time weighting. It is the most commonly used instrument in acoustic measurement. It is an instrument that can approximately measure the noise level of industrial noise, traffic noise, environmental noise and living noise according to the hearing characteristics of the human ear.

Sound level meters can be used to measure environmental noise, mechanical and electrical product noise, traffic noise, architectural acoustics and electroacoustics. Some sound level meters can also be used to measure vibration by replacing the receiving part. The sound level meter can be connected externally or have an octave filter or a 1/3 octave filter internally to perform spectrum analysis of noise.

With the development of electronic technology, especially large-scale integrated circuits and computer technology, the frequency weighting, detector and filter circuits in sound level meters are all implemented through digital signal processing technology instead of analog circuits. This not only makes the circuit more simplified and the dynamic range wider, but also greatly improves the functionality and stability. In particular, real-time spectrum analysis can be achieved, making the sound level meter more widely used.

Sound level meter consists of microphone, attenuator, weighting network, amplifier, detection network and indicator. The most advanced part of the sound level meter is the microphone. After it converts the sound energy into electrical energy, it is sent to the preamplifier of the host. After amplification, it is sent to the attenuator and weighting network. Finally, it passes the detection and is indicated by a signal with certain damping characteristics. The meter displays the sound level reading.

Before using a sound level meter to measure noise, you need to pay attention to the following points:
1. Please read the instruction manual carefully to understand the usage and precautions of the sound level meter.

2. When installing the battery or external power supply, be sure to pay attention to the positive and negative poles of the battery and do not connect them incorrectly. If the sound level meter is not used for a long time, the battery should be removed to prevent battery leakage from damaging the sound level meter.

3. The microphone must be prevented from being thrown and cannot be disassembled. Please keep it in a dry environment when not in use.

4. The sound level meter should be kept away from moisture, sewage, high temperature, dust and chemical gases to avoid damaging the sound level meter.

5. It is strictly prohibited to disassemble the sound level meter by yourself. If the sound level meter does not work properly, please contact the supplier for troubleshooting.
