Tips for using digital storage oscilloscopes

The following is to observe a surge pulse waveform generated when the DC power supply is turned off.

(1) Firstly, connect the probe of the CH1 channel of the oscilloscope to the relevant test point of the DC power supply, and press the "Auto Setup" button to make the oscilloscope display the corresponding waveform.

(2) Adjust the "Trigger Level" knob on the right side of the instrument panel as shown in the figure below, and set the capture pulse level a little higher than the signal level, assuming that it is 5.60V, that is to say, as long as there is a pulse higher than 5.60V, it can be captured, and in the process of adjusting the "Trigger Level" knob, the oscilloscope will be able to capture the pulse. While adjusting the "Trigger Level" knob, the yellow arrow on the screen moves upwards, and the words "5.60V" and the symbol "Rising Edge Trigger" are displayed at the bottom of the screen.

(3) Adjust the "Seconds / Grid" knob at a value close to the period can be set shorter, too large to properly display the captured waveform.

(4) Adjust the "Horizontal Position" knob to set the position of the captured burst pulse on the X-axis, which is set at the origin of the X-axis (i.e., the time axis), and adjust the "Horizontal Position" knob at the same time, and the white arrow on the top of the screen will move in the horizontal direction accordingly.

(5) Press the "SINGLE" button to prepare to capture the trigger pulse, the white arrow on the top of the screen displays the word "Ready", indicating that it is ready.

(6) Turn off the DC power switch, at this time, because in the moment of turning off will produce a jitter pulse, this jitter pulse that is captured by the digital storage oscilloscope, in the screen above the white arrow displays "Acq Complete (capture complete)", and in the screen, we can see in the original DC level of the horizontal line, located near the origin of the X-axis, there is a jitter pulse in the original DC level. On the screen, we can see a sharp pulse wave on the horizontal line of the original DC level, located near the origin of the X-axis.

(7) Adjust the knobs on the panel for "sec/g", "volts/g" and "horizontal position" to zoom in and move the captured pulse waveform.
